Facing the facts

Be Kind to Yourself
Last night, since my options were get a snack or do anything else I convinced myself to enter the food I'd eaten Monday & Tuesday on Fit Day. In the process of doing so I finally looked up the real live calories of my beloved Mocha Java and Poppy Seed Muffin breakfasts.

1100 calories. Not to mention that it's a $6 a day habit that I can't afford.

I'm really disappointed that I have to lose this morning ritual and I'm extra disappointed in the amount of self delusion I've done over the past 6 months.

Today I had instant cocoa and half of yesterday's muffin. 360 calories. Much more reasonable, but no where near as "fun."

er... make that 7 months for me...

I have not done a single solitary healthy thing for myself in three weeks. Well, mainly I have not made time to go to the gym. I have started a 2nd job, and that really tears into my work-out time. After work (8pm) is when the gym closes. And the gym is RIGHT THERE by my work. 45 seconds away by foot. I wont work out and go to work. ew. By March, this gym will be 24 hours, so it will be perfect, as I'll go work out directly after work. DIRECTLY!

So, I will just grin and bear it and be chubby for one more month without doing a darn thing about it save being careful with the foods I eat. Around the holidays? Good luck! I do okay. I don't make up excuses to eat until I'm sick or anything like that, but there are more cookies and chocolates going around.

It's good I have this part time gig so I'm not on my butt reading at home all day (that's my full-time gig), so I get to move about a bit, but really working out... that will have to happen once I am in control of this hectic work schedule and the normalcy of the post-holiday schedule comes into play.

So meanwhile, yeah, I'm not exactly in the 6-month club after dropping out about a month ago. Oops! Do Over!
1. I still bought the big muffin from the coffee shop but I cut it in half and am saving it for tomorrow. I didn't die of hunger like I thought I would. In fact, I was just fine.
2. I walked on my lunch break again today.
3. Last night I gave the cookie from my Secret Santa to my husband.
4. I did have a beer last night, but no ice cream. I've decided that I can have a drink or a treat, but I can't have both.

5. I bought some jeans that fit, hopefully invoking the weight loss karma bitch to kick my butt into smaller sizedom.

Be Kind to Yourself
1. I took 20 minute walks during my lunch hour today and Friday.
2. I got some orange mineral water which is a pretty nice evening treat.
3. I bought a bunch of easy dinners at the grocery store to cut down on the ever so tempting "eating out" that happens in December.

I finally feel well enough that I am taking some steps on my six months.

back on track

Yeesh, I fell off the wagon, but good. Not so much with food, but i have not gone to the gym since I got my period - a week and a half ago (my periods are BAD, so I'm not working out in that condition. Nuff said.) Tomorrow I'm going. That's IT.

Little things

Be Kind to Yourself
I'm still sick as a dog, but I tried to do small things yesterday. Specifically, when I had to go to a couple of stores, I parked as far away as I could and walked to the different stores instead of driving down the strip mall.

Since I'm sick (and it seems that recovery isn't coming anytime soon since I'm still getting sicker) my plan is to walk through the skyways on my lunchbreak this week -- even if it's just 10 minutes. I can't wait to get started any longer. I'm just going to have to start while I'm sick.

Is this Day 3?

Be Kind to Yourself
Yesterday I made a meal plan and went grocery shopping which meant I had healthy food choices actually available to me. I'm pleased to say that I chose them.

Not that I didn't fall to the cake gods twice. But the first one I cut in half and put away for tomorrow. The second kind I wasn't enjoying all that much so I threw part of it away.

No exercise at all unless you count cleaning out file cabinets and walking around the block.

I need more protein in my life. Give me a box of bread, a box of veggies, or a box of meat and I'll pick the bread and veggies every single time. I'm going to trick myself with cheese for now.

Day One - Part 2

Blergh, as usual, I managed to do wonderfully until Supper time.  The plan was to come home and broil fish, bake potatoes and toss a salad. The reality was that I picked the kids up from school, dropped my two off at an after school function, and came home with a kid that wasn't mine.  Shane came in and announced that he was giong over to his sister's to hang lights, so he was eating a sandwich.  There goes my plan for a real meal.  I couldn't even manage to pull out anything healthy once I'd gone back to get Ty and Madalyn, dropped the extra youngin' off, and made it back home.  The kids wanted fries and burgers.  So, guess what we had.

Day One

wings of a dove -- madness
Ok, so maybe it's contrived to make my day one post song lyrics, but if you think about it, the lyrics are from a time when I was happier with my body, and with my attitude, well part of it, I was free-er then.

We always wish for money
We always wish for fame
We think we have the answers
Some things ain't ever gonna change
It doesn't matter who you are
It's all the same
What's in your heart will never change
Look in the mirror
And you see how you've been taken
You won't surrender
But now your heart is breakin'

But what is breaking my HEART is what I let myself become. What isn't changing is my desire to be better, to be something, to be someone. When I listen to that cheesy song, it reminds me that my core is still the same girl who wanted it all. And I can still have it.

Day 1

Be Kind to Yourself
meig, thank you so much for starting this community. I've got high hopes.

As for my Day-1, I met with my therapist and of course she recommended I get more exercise to help stave off depression and of course I've been sitting around like a lump. Cue When Harry Met Sally line: You're right, you're right, I know you're right.

I have an appointment with my other doctor on Friday to review my antidepressants and maybe I'll ask him for a cholesterol test while I'm there so I've got a baseline. (Or maybe I'd rather not know.)

I just stopped taking the Omega-3/Fish Oil capsules because they were upsetting my stomach so bad.
